So get ready to be inspired, motivated and equipped to truly thrive. Hello and welcome to another episode on the she Can Heal podcast. I hope that this episode finds you doing well and thank you so much for joining me for today's conversation.
Keila:Today I wanted to talk about a topic that I think gets misunderstood, and that is the topic of pampering, and if you've listened to my self-care series, you heard me talk about self-care is more than just pampering, right? Self-care is more than just the fun stuff that you do. It's more than just the massages and the nails and all of that. But today I want to kind of clarify pampering and really help you to understand how we can incorporate this into our self-care routine. So I'm here to say that pampering does have a place in your self-care routine.
Keila:Pampering is important. We deserve to be pampered from time to time and, yes, we need to engage in our holistic self-care practices because that's what kind of keeps us feeling well physically, emotionally, spiritually but we cannot underestimate also the importance of giving ourselves moments of pampering, and I'm sure, if you're listening to me, you probably are a busy mom. You're a busy woman who has a busy job, and it's important to do those important things like taking care of your body and making sure you're getting enough rest and eating healthy foods and all that really important stuff, but also like we need to pamper ourselves, like we need to take moments where we can just focus on making ourselves feel all the vibes right, like we want to feel comfy and we want to feel taken care of, and we are the perfect person to do that. And so today I want to talk about how we can do this. How could we incorporate this and what could this look like? For many of us, that could look very different, but I'll give you some different ideas that you can incorporate into your day. Or maybe this could just inspire you to try things that maybe you've used to do and you've just haven't had time to or you forgot about. So this is a conversation to just inspire you and just to remind you that, yes, we got to do all those important things, but also we need to pamper. We need those, we need those comfort and, you know, self-love vibes. That's what it's all about.
Keila:Um, so let's talk a little bit about what is camping, because the truth is that our lives are, you know, can be so busy with everything we're doing. Again, moms, we're taking care of our kids, we're helping them with homework right, we're doing so much for them and for, if you're not a mom or if you are an empty nester like myself, we're still busy. We're working, doing a lot of different projects, right, we have our house to take care of, we have our spouses, so it's just a lot of different projects, right, we have our house to take care of, we have our spouses, so it's just a lot that's going on. And also, this is why it's so important to give back to ourselves. I would say think about this as like a self-love routine, right, and what really is pampering and what really is pampering? Pampering really is doing all those simple, enjoyable things that just makes us feel good, they bring us joy, they bring us comfort, right? Think about it as gentle nurturing, right. It's like giving back to yourself.
Keila:Again, I'm going to keep bringing that self-love word out, because that's what it's all about. Keep bringing that self-love word out, because that's what it's all about. It's about giving ourselves the love and attention that we need in the ways that makes us feel good. And I want to talk about ways that we can weave this into our lives so that we can incorporate more intentional pampering, like setting time aside just for ourselves, because that can be so incredibly helpful and beneficial to us. But before I get started into that part of the discussion, I first want to dive just a little deeper into defining what exactly we mean by pampering, just so that we can fully understand it.
Keila:And pampering in the context of self-care refers to the act of indulging oneself in activities that provide comfort, relaxation and a sense of luxurious well-being. It involves intentionally taking extra care of ourselves, often going beyond the basic needs. So, like I said earlier, right Going beyond the things that we should be doing on a daily basis to nurture our mind, our body, our spirit. And pampering is about creating moments of gentle indulgence and prioritizing personal pleasure and rejuvenation. And I want to add that also, you need to give yourself permission to do so. Right, because this is the part that we struggle with. We struggle with the why am I doing this? This is selfish, um, I shouldn't be doing this, I should be doing that. And the truth is that it's important to prioritize also joy. It's it's important to prioritize you, to prioritize indulgence and comfort and all those little extra things that you can do to yourself, just because we deserve it. We need to do those things too, okay.
Keila:So what are the key aspects of pampering? So number one is intentionality. Right, it's a conscious choice to set time aside and energy for activities that feel good. Right, it's a conscious choice to set time aside and energy for activities that feel good, right. So first we have to have the intention that says I need to have some time either it's daily, it's weekly, it's every couple of weeks or whatnot, whatever works for you to do things that actually make you feel like good and taken care of.
Keila:Okay, sensory pleasure so pampering also involves engaging in the senses in enjoyable ways, through either sense comforting textures, pleasant taste and calming sounds. Right, that's's the whole, that the sensory piece is a really important part, because that's what really helps us to really feel that comfort, feel that nice, um, good energy and good vibes. Right, it's the sounds, it's the taste, it's the, the textures, the feeling. Right, it's bringing those, um, sensory pieces in place. Nurturing so it's about treating yourself with kindness and care, similarly how you take care of the people that you love, right, so it's giving yourself that nurturing, relaxation and stress reduction. So it's pampering activities that help to ease your tension and they promote a sense of calm, which is what we're looking for. It boosts your mood and your self-esteem because when you're feeling cared for, that can positively impact your emotional state and sense of self-worth.
Keila:And again, who's the best person to do that? It is ourselves, and that's something we need to get in the habit of doing not depending on other people to do things that makes us feel good, but being the person that can be the front of the line with that. Right, it's like I can do that. I don't need to depend on people to do that for me. It's nice when they do. Those are all bonuses, but I should be the first person to be doing these things for myself and going beyond the necessity, right.
Keila:Of course, we need to do all those important basic self-care habits right, showering and doing all those things to take care of ourselves, but pampering takes it to a whole nother like just a step further, a little step further into just fun and indulgence and pleasure. Okay, so we are going to explore different ways to pamper ourselves and I want you to keep in mind that it's not about extravagance. It's not about being wasteful. It's about being intentionally nurturing with ourselves in ways that brings us joy and helps us feel good overall. So this is something that we're going to explore and I think that's important because I want to share with you ways that you can incorporate pampering into your life that meets what works for you.
Keila:For some, that is, they have the resources and they can go for those really nice activities, like going for massages and doing those types of activities, while others will prefer more low-key things, and I think incorporating a little bit of both is probably the key to that. Like, for instance, I like to um for my birthday. I like to um book a full body massage and that's over a hundred dollars, you know, and I can't do that all the time, um, but I do that on special occasions and I actually like it so much that I think I'm going to incorporate it twice a year. So, instead of just once a year on my birthday, I think I'm also going to incorporate later in the year, just because it feels really good and it's actually good for the body. It's not just about pampering, but it does help so much in so many different ways. But that's just like an example of something that you could incorporate that you may save money for.
Keila:Like I have a self care little savings account where every time I get paid, I put in $50 in there and that money I use towards pampering, I use towards things that make me feel good, like I recently just purchased a painting course that was, like you know, 35 bucks, but I didn't have to pull that out of my regular you know account. I said this is going to be my pampering right On Saturdays or Sundays. I haven't started it yet, trying to figure out where I want to incorporate it. I'm going to start doing this painting class and it's going to be a pampering, it's going to be a fun, it's going to be a comfort thing and I'm going to be able to use my self-care funds because that's what I have it for. So let's get into how you can incorporate some pampering into your daily routine. So I'm going to talk about a couple different categories of pampering and then I'm going to, at the end, I'm going to talk about a couple of different categories of pampering and then I'm going to, at the end, I'm going to give you some ideas of what that could actually look like in a routine.
Keila:Okay, so we're going to start with category number one, which is nurturing your skin. This is a great place for us to incorporate some pampering, because our skin is our largest organ and it's constantly working to protect us, so showing it some love can be incredibly therapeutic, and there's several things that you can do. Number one you can do a relaxing bath or shower, so elevating your daily routine with aromatherapy oils like lavender or chamomile, adding some Epsom salts for muscle relaxation or a nice little bubble bath can be really helpful for your skin and so relaxing. You can do face masks, and they don't have to be expensive products. You can definitely DIY this for just a little TLC. You can look for different recipes like honey, yogurt, avocado, or sometimes you can just go and go to, like, your local Walmart or even the dollar store and get yourself those little um, disposable ones that you can just open up and put on your skin. I've done those before and those can just. It did just feel really relaxing and cool and cute. Um, but again, this can be very. This can be just up to you. Whatever you are.
Keila:If you're like more crafty, like I, am trying to create your own little face masks with different ingredients, like that could be fun, if not just buy them. There's so many out there with different scents and different and different ingredients that that could be kind of fun and it could be so soothing, so that could be ideas Mindful moisturizing, so after your bath or shower you can go out and you can buy yourself some nice soft body butter. Again, it's all about the senses and what you like. So for some of us that might be like lavender eucalyptus, so for some people they like more rosy scents and again, it could be something you can do. This can be a daily thing, right when you can do this every night. So at night, after your night shower, you can put that body butter all over your skin and put on some nice comfortable or just comfy pajamas and that could be just a really fun little nighttime pampering session.
Keila:A soothing phasal massage, so using your fingertips gently massaging your face in upward and circular motions. This can help release tension, promote circulation. So any of these things can be really helpful, like activities that you could incorporate into some type of a pampering ritual, and I'll share some ideas later on of how we can put that all together. But anything to do with your skin. I know there's also those face rollers that you can incorporate into your skincare routine. There's just a lot of stuff out there that you could incorporate and just create a really fun skincare routine and that could be. Again, that could be at night, maybe it's a bath and and lotion routine, right. So it's like giving yourself this nice um shower. I've seen people put real eucalyptus in their shower to give it just that nice eucalyptus um scent as you're taking a nice shower and maybe it's the body wash that you use and you know it's like all those little things that you could incorporate into your routine that just elevates it just a little bit to give it that little you know nurturing kind of you know essence to it. So again, it doesn't have to be anything big.
Keila:If you want to take it a step further, then definitely that would be. You know, booking a quarterly or, like I do a birthday massage or a special be. You know booking a quarterly or like I do a birthday massage or a special occasions. You know that could be going out and getting those pedicures you know every season, or sometimes it could just be going and getting your um, you know, changing your toenails or getting your toenails painted, right, it could be getting a facial, which is something I definitely want to do. Um, so that's something that I'm adding into my self-care savings account is saving up for a nice facial, just because, again, especially as we continue to age, it's important to take care of our skin. And so, getting a facial, I just want to try it out, so I want to save for that and get that done. So it's, you have different levels, right? You have the levels where you can do this DIY at home, at night or in your daily routine. You can bump it up just a little more and add just those little fun elements to it, or you can do something like going out and actually paying for some type of service at whatever you can afford. Of course, you have to be financially smart with these things, so we want to make sure that we're doing things that fit within our budget or, like what I do, we save for these things so that we can incorporate those into our routine.
Keila:Okay, so let's move on to category number two, which is engaging your senses. This is another really great aspect of pampering yourself, and it is the understanding that our senses are powerful gateways to our emotions. So engaging them in pleasurable ways can really uplift and make us feel good All right. So some examples could be incorporating aromatherapy. So that could be lighting a candle, using a diffuser with your favorite essential oils, or even just taking a moment to appreciate natural scents around you, like fresh flowers. I know that is something that some women like to do is get fresh flowers at least once a week. I know when I I'm not that type of person that gets fresh flowers, but when I do get flowers, for whatever reason, or when I'm outside and I'm surrounded by flowers, the scents of flowers are so nice to the senses I love smelling the fresh flowers. So using any type of aromatherapy that you connect with so for some that might be essential oils, for some it's lighting a candle in a really nice scent Could be something that you could incorporate into your pampering routine.
Keila:Suiting sounds so putting on calming music, nature sounds that's something I truly love to do. I incorporate that in my morning routine, which is just putting on some meditation music, but allowing that auditory input to just make you feel more peaceful and help you to elevate your room so that it can feel that much more calming and relaxing. Think about, like when you go to a spa. If you've ever gone to a nice spa, they always have relaxing like meditation music going on. They have either essential oils going off and you just walk into the space and you already feel so relaxed and calm because of those elements. So incorporating those elements into our home room could really help us.
Keila:Also. Comforting textures is another one. This is one of my favorites, right. It's having a very comfortable blanket that you could just wrap yourself in.
Keila:Your favorite cozy pajamas or having comforting textures around you can be really helpful. So I usually love, I love having cozy little blankets on my sofa. I love having coming home and putting on those really comfortable soft pajamas. So anything like that could be good. Also, you could incorporate this into your bed, like some people really love having silk bed sheets because, again, it's just giving yourself that little pampering. I'm going to, if bedtime is that time of the day that you really want to like, fill your cup in and re-energize yourself, giving yourself those textures, those elements into your spaces, could be really um helpful. So again it's, you know, having incorporating those elements into your um home as much as you can.
Keila:So again, for some of us that might just be taking that shower, lathering ourselves with that nice body butter and putting on those cozy pajamas, getting on the sofa, putting that nice fuzzy, warm blanket on us as we end our night, either reading or watching our favorite TV shows. That is just a nice little touch that we can incorporate. Also, savoring a treat so a lot of times it's, you know, enjoying your favorite cup of tea, your favorite dessert like a very dark chocolate, your snack. So, again, it's all about engaging all your senses and think about putting this all together into a little Friday night or weekend routine, and you can see how this alone just makes you feel so nice and cozy, and me talking about it makes me also excited to you know, incorporate that myself. So category two is all about engaging your senses in all those different ways, all right.
Keila:So let's go to our last category that I will share about today, and that's going to be creative, all right. So let's move on to category number three, and this will be the last one that we'll go through, just so this isn't so long, and that is creative expression in place. So, again, nurturing your inner child, because sometimes the most fun ways to pamper ourselves is simply allowing ourselves to just have fun and engage in activities that bring us joy and allows ourselves to express ourselves freely. I think this is one of my favorite ways to pamper and I think I told you guys about it earlier with me purchasing that painting class, because art is definitely something that I just love enjoying.
Keila:So some ideas could be coloring or doodling, so engaging in creative activities without any pressure for perfection, so literally just doing it for relaxing and meditative purposes. I know I've seen videos online of fun doodling exercises just for stress relief, where they'll just make lines and then they'll color the lines and they'll add all these fun little elements. And again, it's it's not about what the finished product is going to be. It's not about what the finished product is going to be, but about how it feels as you're doing it. So any type of coloring there's, um, all kinds of coloring books that you can purchase for all different kinds, with affirmations on them, with different animals, whatever you like could be really helpful and relaxing. Listening to your favorite music and singing along so, again, align yourself to feel the emotions that you get from the music and letting the voice be heard Could be really fun to do. And again, it's incorporating all of these elements together that can could just imagine you doodling or coloring or painting while you light up a nice candle, while you're listening to meditation, music or your favorite playlist. Putting all those elements together, you can see how that could be such a really relaxing little session that you could give yourself All right. So now I want to give you some ideas of rituals that you can incorporate with all these different elements to create some really relaxing pampering sessions for yourself. And again, I want you to remember that this is personalized, meaning you have to think for yourself what would pampering look like for you and how often could you incorporate this in your life? I'm going to go through some different ideas that you can do on a daily basis, on a weekly basis, maybe like on a weekend, and maybe even some like monthly or special occasions that you can do. So let's start with daily rituals or little daily things that you can do to pamper yourself, and again, think about for yourself in your life and what that could really look like.
Keila:For some of us, it could be having a nighttime ritual, so every night, right, we take a shower with our favorite body washer. That might mean get yourself some really um, some really good body wash, either a scent that you really um enjoy, um a. A brand that has um like. I love Dove. Dove, for me, is so like. It has a fresh scent and it just feels really good on my skin. Get yourself a nice bath sponge or bath loofah that can really feel really relaxing as you are bathing yourself. Also, having some really soothing body cream or body lotion that you can put on afterwards with some really comfy pajamas, that could be it for you. Or, if you want to take a step further, you can also add a skincare routine of your choice. The whole point is that you give yourself a very cozy nighttime ritual that can help you feel really relaxed and pampered at the end of your night, but it doesn't have to be anything that is too much. Again, this is an example that you can add, subtract, make it what you need it to be at night. All right.
Keila:Another ritual you could do is a morning ritual, and this could be the start of your day. So if the start of your day is a time where you want to infuse a little bit of just pampering, relaxation, you can do that very easily. You could do stuff like waking up and making your favorite comfort drink such as your favorite, like coffee or tea. You can also engage in a gentle yoga routine with meditation, music, playing. You can also put like some essential oils or a candle burning and just do a nice little yoga routine. This could be the time where you light up a candle, you have your nice tea and maybe it's a time where you do some morning reading or you pull out your journal and you are just relaxed and you have this really fun relaxing ambience that you can start in the morning. So one of my favorite things to do is start my morning with very slow and relaxing. So I'm a very slow morning person and for me that works because my day is so busy. So if you are the type of person that wants to have this relaxing morning time, then a morning ritual would be really the place for you.
Keila:If you're the type of person that likes to do it more at the end of the day, then maybe doing something like the nighttime routine with some of the ideas that I mentioned previously might be something that can work for you. It all depends on your routine and on your lifestyle. Another thing you could do at nighttime, too is right before you're going to bed. Maybe you want to release some stress from the night and you really want to have a more relaxing time at night, and maybe the bath, the shower, the skincare thing isn't for you. Maybe what you could do is you can do some gentle yoga in your bed. It is a thing and all you have to do is just be in your bed and, I will say, add the ambience to it. So maybe at night you put on the essential oils or you put on the meditation music and you give yourself five to 10 minutes of doing gentle yoga stretches right in your bed. And let me tell you that I've done this and this will definitely help you to have a really good sleep because you are relaxing and stretching out any, maybe any tension that you have in your body, and it could be such a good way to relax yourself at night.
Keila:So these are just things you can do daily, depending on your schedule, and again, you can make them as elaborate or as not. You know me I like to say every little small thing does make a difference. So for you it might be just picking one of these things out. Maybe it's the morning ritual for you. You might say you know what I'm going to. I want to have a nice, relaxing morning, and so maybe waking up, having a slow morning and incorporating some of these elements could be something for you, or maybe you're the person that wants to do that more at night. Pick what works for you and adjust it as you need. These are just ideas to get your mind and your ideas flowing and so that you can try these things out and create your own little routines.
Keila:All right, so let's talk about some weekly rituals that you can do. So these are things you could do once a week, maybe like on the weekends, or like on a Friday night. So here are some ideas On a Friday night, maybe Saturday night, sunday night, whatever works for you, but doing that could be a time where you can give yourself a like, a little relaxing bath time. So that could be something like taking a bubble bath with essential oils or adding some Epsom salts to it. You can light a candle, you can put some soft or relaxing music, a favorite playlist, and just have a relaxing bubble bath. Or I've seen people who actually like they'll read a book in the bath or they'll add something like a nice little face mask.
Keila:Again, make it as fun as you want, but that could be an idea that you can do on a weekend and a Friday night. After a whole week that you know busy, that you've had, you can end your week by doing something like that. Um, you can also then maybe do a full skincare routine. Maybe then you can take and get your favorite body cream put out, some comfy silk or fuzzy pajamas. You can do a full skincare routine. That could be like the day where you actually do more with your routine. Maybe that's when you do the face mask, maybe that's when you do the little face roller, or the what they call it, the gua sha that you can do. That could be the time where you can do anything like that, and then you can finish it off by doing whatever relaxing activity you enjoy doing. So that might be either cutting up on the couch with your favorite blanket and watching your favorite movie, or reading a really good book, while enjoying, you know, your favorite snacks or your favorite meal a glass of wine, right, do whatever feels good. But doing something like this, you know, once a week, every other week, whatever I know. For some of us it depends on our time in our lives, but, um, thinking doing something like that could be really fun and really relaxing for us. So doing something like that could be, um, really um, a nice pampering session that you can give yourself. Also, another one is this is a good time for us to do the play, right.
Keila:Engage in a fun, creative hobby like painting, coloring, doodling, crafting, anything like that. And you can do that on, you know, a Friday night, saturday, whatever time I mean I'm saying weekends because I'm thinking of us busy people, but if you have time during the week maybe you don't work as late you can do something like this. This can be like an evening thing. You know, like I mentioned earlier, that I purchased this painting course and visualizing myself doing this like on a weekend, and I'll light a candle, I'll put on some relaxing meditation music on, I'll set up my space and that will be my time. And so, if you can engage in a creative hobby like that, if that's your thing, right, engage in a creative activity like that. And then again, right, we layer on all these little pieces that actually just bring that relaxation, that ambience, and so, again, it's doing anything like that.
Keila:You can also do this outside. You can do this in your yard, you can go to a park and bring your headphones and you know that could be a time where, if you like to draw, if you like to paint, if you like to do crossword puzzles, if you like to doodle, you know, bring your creative journal. All those types of things can be such a really fun and relaxing thing to do. You can give yourself a pedicure. You can paint your nails while you're watching a good movie. Another thing you do is you can take yourself out on a date. Right, dress yourself up in your favorite outfit, make yourself look cute, go to your favorite restaurant, take yourself to a movie, whatever it is that makes you feel good.
Keila:I would even incorporate going to a yoga class, right, going to a painting class, signing up for a fun activity. I did this before the pandemic started. I would take myself once a month on a different activity. I did a yoga class inside of a Himalayan salt cave. I took myself to some painting classes and it was just a time for me to give back to myself. Just was a month plus. I think it's also important to learn how to like, learn to be alone with yourself, learn how to just enjoy your own company, but also put yourself out there. So going to places by yourself could be a really good self-love ritual that we can practice, and so doing anything like that could be really engaging.
Keila:And again once a week. If once a week is too much, once every other week. And again it doesn week. If once a week is too much, you know, once every other week, and again it doesn't have to be much. Right, it could be that bubble bath with essential oils at the end of the week. It could be that Saturday morning you wake up and you decide that you're going to give yourself a nice full on skincare routine. That's the time when you put the face mask on and you use the rollers. Maybe that's the time when you give yourself that extra long shower. You put a good playlist on and you just take your time and come out and you lather yourself up with some really nice and soft and creamy body butter.
Keila:Honestly, it's all about what is going to help you feel good and cared for and relaxed. For some of us, that's just literally at a Friday night, saturday night, it could be a day in where we're just going to get into our comfortable PJs, we're going to get on the sofa, we're going to order our favorite food and watch some really fun romantic comedy movies my favorite and that could be it. Now we also want to think about can we incorporate some things more on a monthly or maybe quarterly basis? Some things more on a monthly or maybe quarterly basis? And that's where you can incorporate those special occasions that could be on your birthday splurge and, you know, take yourself out to a massage or to get a pedicure or to get a facial right.
Keila:Maybe it is um signing up for that um meditation class that you can do, um, you know, maybe once a month, um, something that I really want to go back to is um hot yoga. I know it's not for everybody, um, but I haven't done it in a while and I usually it feels good because you are sweating on like all of your toxins, um, so it's a really nice class to attend. Um, there's um some meditation classes. You know there's painting classes. There's so many different things depending on what it is that you like to do. For some, it might be signing up for a, a dance class. It might be, um, you know, like, what I did is just sign up for an online um fun, creative class that you can do or engage in a hobby that you really enjoy and it's all about giving yourself permission so that you can enjoy it.
Keila:Because you don't want to think about this as like I have to, I need to say you know what. I'm going to start dedicating Saturday mornings to doing my painting class and I'm going to set it all up and I'm going to have it ready, and every Saturday morning I'm going to get up, I'm going to make my breakfast, I'm going to have a slow morning and then I'm going to go and I'm going to enjoy my painting class. I'm going to have my favorite candles right there, my favorite drink, and I have my table set up and it's gonna just be me and my painting for a couple hours. And that is good enough. If I can do that every week, awesome. If I do that every other week, awesome.
Keila:Whatever works for me, because this is not about having pressure and not putting so much on ourselves, but this is just helping you to realize that pampering, right, comfort and bring yourself joy those things do matter and those things also have a place in your self-care routine. It's not only the things that we need to do in order to feel our best, but also it's that fun, creativity, joy, comfort all of those things also should have a place in your self-care routine. And again, these are just examples that you could do on a daily basis, on a weekly basis, on a special occasion, on a every other month basis, whatever works for you, but honestly, do it, because it's important for us to also give back to ourselves. It's important for us to do the things that matter to us, that makes us feel good, because that stuff really does make a difference in how we feel. So I'm just here to encourage you that give yourself those moments, no matter how often or not, but give yourself permission to do the things that just have fun, that make you feel good.
Keila:Okay, well, that's my episode for today. I hope that you actually take the time to take the words that I'm sharing with you, the advice that I'm giving you today, to really think about yourself and take an inventory and say you know how can I incorporate some me time, some pampering time, into my day, into my week, into my life, and really start to incorporate some of these. It might be starting small and starting in the morning, starting at night and then, little by little, just create something that's going to work for you, because, believe me, it is essential for us to give back to ourselves. Because, believe me, it is essential for us to give back to ourselves. It is part of our holistic approach of caring for you know ourselves so that we can be the best you know moms and the best people out in this world, and part of that is number one is taking care of you know ourselves in all the ways. So I hope that you take this information and you really apply it to yourself and also, if you know someone that could benefit from hearing this because you feel like they are so busy and they never make time for themselves, share this episode with them so that this can also inspire them to realize that it's okay to spend time, to spend energy, to spend money on ourselves in the way that makes us feel good.
